Hello! My name is Barbara and I’m studying Illustration Design at Zwolle.
In the ArTechLab I’ve experimented with motion and laser techniques. I’ve
always found new techniques interesting, because it can do things
that we as humans aren't capable of.

At first I’ve started making and learning about the technical principles of Pop-ups.
A Pop-up is a technique which can convert a two-dimensional (2D) object into a three-dimensional (3D)
one. Below and up you can see some examples of my sketches that are
made of paper. Some of these sketches are not quite successful, but they
are lovely to watch. For example: the object that appears on a squama
of an animal. Whether the object that’s made of circles. It looks like a
complex construction from the site.

During my workflow I was inspired by nature. I illustrated plants that
came from my own imagination and plants that are extinct.
These fine illustrations I’ve cut with the laser device (below). It’s made from
thick paper. I’ve also tried to make them from
other materials like: plastic, special laser paper, sheets, leafs.
But I always I ended up making them of paper, because of
its great flexibility.

Later in the process, I’ve tried to unite the Pop-up technique and the laser illustrations.
The idea was to give new life to these devised or extinct plants, thought
the living motion of Pop-up.

The final products “Pop-up Globe” and “Pop-up Spiral” unite this story.
You can also see the making of the “Pop-up Globe” and my final projects
“Pop-up Globe” and “Pop-up Spiral” below.

First I’ve made a plan on the computer. Which images have to meet
and where?
You fold the sides to the right side. There are pyramids now.
Then you can fold the pyramids facing each other.
You can fold the object to a two-dimensional (2D) and back
to a three-dimensional (3D) object.
